CD6: Maryland GOP Chair Alex Mooney Decides Against Run for Congress

The Hagerstown Herald-Mail's Andrew Schotz has the decision many Republicans have been waiting for. This morning he reports that Maryland GOP Chair Alex Mooney is not running for Congress in the 6th Congressional District:
Former state Sen. Alex X. Mooney is not running for Maryland’s 6th District seat in Congress, even after raising more than $100,000 for a possible candidacy, he said Tuesday....

On Tuesday, Mooney said he is convinced that Bartlett, R-Md., is campaigning and fundraising seriously for another term in office.

Mooney is the chairman of the Maryland Republican Party.

Last month, when Bartlett maintained that he was committed to running for an 11th term and started raising more campaign money, Mooney kept his exploratory committee going and said he would decide whether to run shortly before Wednesday’s candidate filing deadline.

Mooney made his announcement on Tuesday in Frederick.

Wow. Just like that he bows out of the race. Too bad he alienated Maryland Republican activists with his exploratory effort (and selfish fundraising attitude).
