CD6: AFSCME Endorses Rob Garagiola for Congress in Maryland’s Sixth Congressional District

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

AFSCME Endorses Rob Garagiola for Congress in Maryland’s Sixth Congressional District

Today, AFSCME – the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees, rallied behind and endorsed Rob Garagiola for Congress in Maryland’s Sixth Congressional District. AFSCME Maryland, the state affiliate, represents thousands of middle class and working families.

“It’s obvious why labor unions are rallying behind Garagaiola for Congress in Maryland’s Sixth Congressional District. Rob Garagiola has a proven track record in the State Senate of creating good paying jobs for Maryland’s working class families,” said Glen Middleton, Executive Director of AFSCME Council 67. “It’s clear that Rob Garagiola is the only candidate in both the primary and the general election who is a strong advocate for labor unions and collective bargaining rights,” concluded Middleton.

“I waited tables, worked fast food, and took the night shift at a grocery store to put myself through college. I know the value of hard work and playing by the rules. Every worker deserves a good job with fair pay and benefits,” said Garagiola.

“In the State Senate, I’ve fought for Maryland’s working families by expanding healthcare coverage to working people. I’ve cracked down on predatory lenders that that exploit working families and enacted reforms that protect homeowners against foreclosure,” added Garagiola.

At a time of unprecedented onslaughts and attacks against unions and working families across the country, Rob Garagiola led the fight on a whole range of issues that protect workers, including creating an Equal Pay Commission, strengthening the State Labor Relations Board and safeguarding workers’ compensation.
