PRESS RELEASE

Congresswoman Donna Edwards and Montgomery County Councilwoman
Valerie Ervin Endorse Democrat John Delaney in 6th Congressional District Race

Congresswoman Edwards cites Delaney’s “intellect, independence, and core values”
including commitment to working families

In another sign of growing campaign momentum, John Delaney received today the endorsements of Congresswoman Donna Edwards from Maryland’s 4th District and Montgomery County Councilwoman and former Council President Valerie Ervin. Thursday morning, Congresswoman Edwards and Councilwoman Ervin joined Delaney at the Shady Grove Metro Station in Montgomery County, where together they took John’s message of job growth and ethical reform directly to the voters.

Congresswoman Edwards released the following statement:

"I am proud to support John Delaney to represent Maryland's 6th Congressional District in Congress. John has the intellect, independence, and core values to be a true leader in Congress. Having grown up in a union household, John and I share a commitment to strengthening the prospects for working families who deserve fair wages, decent benefits, and the opportunity to enjoy the American Dream. I know that John will use his experience in business to improve the economy by making the necessary investments in education, infrastructure, and green energy to ensure our competitiveness in the 21st Century."

“I am extremely proud to receive Congresswoman Edwards’ endorsement. In speaking out and standing up for working families, Congresswoman Edwards has proven to be an independent voice that puts her constituents first,” said John Delaney. “It’ll take a lot of hard work, but in Congress my goal will be to fight as hard for the residents of Maryland as Congresswoman Edwards has for last four years.”

Councilwoman Ervin released the following statement:

“I am a proud Marylander, a Democrat, and a Montgomery County resident, and I am supporting John Delaney for U.S. Congress. John Delaney's message has captured the aspirations of voters who have grown tired of politics as usual. His story is an American story. His father was a union electrician and a member of the IBEW and he was the first person in his family to attend college. He is a successful entrepreneur and has helped many small companies succeed in tough times. John's campaign has been about ideas and he has taken those ideas directly to the voters of the district. He is an independent voice and I look forward to working with him on issues that impact working families.”

“As a Montgomery County resident, the endorsement of Councilwoman Ervin means a great deal to me,” said Delaney. “Councilwoman Ervin’s efforts to have made Montgomery County a better place to live, work, and raise a family.”

Delaney added, “As the father of four daughters I know how important it is to have strong leaders like Congresswoman Edwards and Councilwoman Ervin. At all levels of government, we must fight for equal pay, greater access to quality and affordable health care, including contraception, and adequate childcare support for working parents.”

Congresswoman Edwards and Councilwoman Ervin’s endorsements are the latest in a series of major endorsements received by Delaney, who has also been endorsed by President Clinton, Comptroller Peter Franchot, and former Montgomery County Executive Doug Duncan. Delaney has also been endorsed by the Washington Post and the Gazette.
