EVENT JuiceBlender: Rally with Cardin, Delaney & Van Hollen // Plus, Biz Markie, ACS Lawyers, Affordable Housing & More

Here's a random blend of invitations to upcoming events that may be of interest to Maryland Juice readers:

JUICE #1: HOWARD EXEC KEN ULMAN PARTY WITH BIZ MARKIE: Tom Coale (@hocorising) at the HoCo Rising blog has a pretty AWESOME event invitation from Howard County Executive Ken Ulman, a candidate for Governor in 2014. On Thursday, May 10th from 7-9 PM Ken Ulman is inviting us to join him at a party with BIZ MARKIE and former Def Jam music executive Kevin Liles. As the HoCo Rising blog reminds us, Biz Markie is best known for his off-key singing in the hit song "Just a Friend" (music video below):

Dear Friends in the 6th and 8th Congressional Districts,

Please join Obama for America and the Maryland Democratic Party on April 28 for a rally to celebrate our unity. We're Democrats, and sometimes we differ on matters. But when it counts the most, we come together for the good of our counties, our state and our country.

Come and meet Senator Cardin, Congressman Van Hollen and Candidate Delaney.

Hope to see you next week. Scroll down for the flyer.

JUICE #3: AMERICAN CONSTITUTION SOCIETY MOCO KICKOFF W/ SEN. RASKIN: For those of you familiar with the legal dimension to America's political divide, you may be familiar with the American Constitution Society (aka "ACS") and the Federalist Society. Both organization's represent the legal community on the left and the right, respectively. ACS is notably younger than the Federalist Society. But now, the progressive attorneys organization will have a presence in Montgomery County. Sen. Jamie Raskin and other ACS leaders and members will be on-hand to kick-off the effort. See the invitation below from local attorney and Democratic activist Marc Korman:
Local Lawyers,

I wanted to share information about this great upcoming event with you.  As you probably know, the American Constitution Society (ACS) is a progressive legal organization working to shape the public debate on legal and constitutional issues.  ACS's Maryland chapter is launching a new branch in Montgomery County and I thought you might be interested in the kick-off event.  The best part is the event is free. How often do you get an email from me that does not ask for money for some progressive cause or candidate (though feel free to join ACS)?

I hope you can join us and please spread the word.

JUICE #4: MOCO AFFORDABLE HOUSING CONFERENCE WITH HUD SECRETARIES DONOVAN & CISNEROS - The Affordable Housing Conference of Montgomery County (AHCMC) is holding its 21st Annual Summit on May 7th at 8:30 am at the Bethesda North Marriott Conference Center. The event will feature a keynote from HUD Secretary Shaun Donovan, and former HUD Secretary Henry Cisneros will receive an award. This is apparently, the first formal visit from HUD Secretaries to MoCo -- a place that could certainly use a sharper focus on affordable housing issues. See the note below from Barbara Goldberg Goldman, Co-Chair of MoCo's Affordable Housing Conference:
The morning will include eight panels with nationally recognized housing experts such as Renee Glover, Atlanta's esteemed Housing Director, Roger Lewis, Washington Post columnist, John Hall, DC Housing Director, David Bowers, Enterprise, Jane Vincent, HUD Regional Admin., Kent Watkins,Chairman of the National Academy of Housing and Sustainable Development, Ken Barnum of the Veterans Administration and head of the VASH Program, and many, many more.
Rep. Chris Van Hollen and former Senator Paul Sarbanes also will be with us to address our attendees. This year, Veterans and their Housing Options will be a top priority for discussion.

Our nationally recognized "Break The Barrier To Home Ownership" contest along with our "Architectural Design Award" presentations will be highlighted. Rick Nelson, Director of MoCo's DHCA, will receive this year's "Paul Sarbanes Excellence in Community Service Award."

This promises to be a fantastic event. For additional information and details, please visit our website at www.affordablehousingconference.org.

Hope to see you there,
Barbara
