NY9 Special Election Update: Democrats Lost Because of.... Jews, Gays, Candidate Recruitment, Chuck Schumer, Elvis

Earlier this week, we put out an alert to Maryland Democrats to keep former Rep. Anthony Weiner's Congressional seat in Democratic hands. The election was yesterday, and very simply put, we got our hineys handed to us. Democrat David Weprin was unable to pull off a victory, handing this Brooklyn-based Democratic stronghold over to a marginal Republican candidate.

The New York Times had this summary (and spin):
A little-known Republican businessman from Queens, channeling voter discontent with President Obama into an upset, won election to Congress on Tuesday from the heavily Democratic district in New York City last represented by Anthony D. Weiner.

The Republican, Bob Turner, a retired cable television executive, defeated Assemblyman David I. Weprin, the scion of a prominent Democratic family in Queens, in a nationally watched special election.

With 84 percent of the precincts counted early Wednesday, Mr. Turner was leading Mr. Weprin by 54 percent to 46 percent, according to The Associated Press.
Taken alone, this loss isn't truly a big deal yet, as I assume there may be a correction in the next regularly scheduled election. But in the meantime, we have to deal with every manner of spin from every interest group. Sigh. I love special election soul-searching! Check out the screencap of today's NY9 news:
