The Hill yesterday reported that the U.S. House has tabled a resolution by Rep. Donna Edwards condemning GOP Rep. Allen West:
The House on Tuesday killed a Democratic resolution aimed at disapproving comments from Rep. Allen West (R-Fla.) that Joseph Goebbels would be "proud of the Democrat Party because they have an incredible propaganda machine."A press release on Rep. Edwards' website provided some information on the effort:
West's quote from this week prompted Democrats to put forward a resolution that outlines Goebbels's role as Reich minister of propaganda in Hitler's Germany for more than a decade, and says comparisons using Goebbels are inappropriate.
Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Donna F. Edwards (D-MD) today introduced a privileged resolution of the House disapproving of comments made by Congressman Allen West (R-FL). A Republican motion to table the resolution was passed by the House by a vote of 231-188. “Politico Pro” quoted Rep. West on December 15, 2011 as saying, “If Joseph Goebbels was around, he’d be very proud of the Democrat Party because they have an incredible propaganda machine. I think that you have, and let’s be honest, you know, some of the people in the media are complicit in this, in enabling them to get that type of message out.”

Rep. West later reiterated his comments in a letter to Congressman John Conyers (D-MI) saying, “The Democrat Party does indeed have a vicious propaganda machine, it espouses lies and deceit and the Master of deceptive information would be truly proud.”
“The outrageous and insensitive remarks made by Rep. West have no place in our nation’s political discourse,” said Congresswoman Edwards. “This privileged resolution states clearly that this distasteful behavior cannot and will not be tolerated in the House of Representatives. The American people demand and deserve true leaders who are willing to work together to solve the nation’s economic and fiscal challenges. I ask my Congressional Colleagues to join me in sending a clear message that we share that priority.”
