On November 7th, U.S. Senator Barbara Mikulski's 2010 opponent Eric Wargotz announced he was not going to make another attempt for office in 2012. Now that State Senator Anthony Muse is challengin U.S. Senator Ben Cardin in this year's Democratic Primary, Mr. Wargotz appears to be rethinking his decision. The Baltimore Sun today reported:
Wargotz, a Republican who ran an unsuccessful campaign against Democratic Sen. Barbara A. Mikulski in 2010, said Saturday he wants to take a "second look" at running for Senate this year now that State Sen. C. Anthony Muse is in the race....
Now he says that Muse's candidacy -- announced Thursday -- may provide an opportunity for a Republican candidate to be more competitive....I'm not sure I follow Mr. Wagotz's logic here. Does he think that the supporters of either Ben Cardin or Anthony Muse are going to migrate to the GOP after the Democratic Primary?
Wargotz doesn't have much time to decide: The deadline to file to put a candidate's name on the ballot for the April 3 primary is Wednesday....
