DELEGATE DWYER SINKS BOAT WITH 2.5 TIMES LEGAL BLOOD ALCOHOL CONTENT: Maryland politicos are buzzing with news that GOP Delegate Don Dwyer drove a boat while drunk last night, resulting in seven injured people -- including three children. According to WBAL, Del. Dwyer's blood alcohol content (BAC) was .2, which is two and a half times over the legal limit for Maryland automobile drivers. Driving with .08 BAC is per se illegal in Maryland, and Dwyer admits boating while boozing, so his actions likely constitute a criminal offense in the Free State. We first learned of the news from a report in the LGBT-oriented publication, The Metro Weekly (excerpt below):

METRO WEEKLY: Maryland Delegate Don Dwyer was reportedly injured late Wednesday evening in a boating accident. The incident happened in the Gibson Island area of Pasadena, MD between two vessels. WJZ-TV interviewed Lt. Keith Hamilton of the Anne Arundel Fire Department who said of the 7pm accident.... "He's talking with our investigator, and he seems to be OK."

Dwyer is best known in the Maryland State Assembly for his efforts to block the legalization of marriage for gay and lesbian couples. In 2007, he began by proposing an amendment to ban gay marriages in Maryland. He called for removal of Judge Brooke Murdoch, unsuccessfully tried to impeach Attorney General Doug Gansler, and he publicly testified in 2011 that his fellow legislators needed to consider that his version of God is opposed to homosexuality and same-sex marriages....

WBAL's interview with Delegate Dwyer, a vocal member of Maryland's Tea Party, provides further details on the incident (excerpt below):
WBAL: "It is true that I was drinking while operating my boat yesterday.  It has also been reported that my blood alcohol content was 0.2...." Dwyer said....

Six people including Dwyer were hospitalized after the accident on the Magothy River near Gibson island Wednesday evening.

The collision between a 26-foot Baja and an 18-foot Bayliner happened at about 7 p.m. Wednesday near Gibson Island.

The Baja, which contained Dwyer and another person, sank, said Sgt. Brian Albert, a Maryland Natural Resources Police spokesman....

Four of the children between the ages of 5 and 12 were taken to hospitals Wednesday night. Two other adults also were taken to hospitals....

The motorboat with the children was towing two of them on a tube, Albert said....

ENOUGH OF THE HYPOCRISY FROM GOP OFFICIALS: The last time Maryland Juice wrote about Delegate Dwyer we printed his amusing Match.com dating profile (as provided by a source in Annapolis). Dwyer's ironic screenname is "Toolbox1674" -- but this story about Delegate Toolbox is not so funny, given the serious injuries sustained by victims of the accident.

Am I the only one who is tired of GOP officials moralizing about family values when they themselves appear to be morally bankrupt? Don't throw stones....
