Yesterday Maryland Juice wrote about an anonymous website attacking Montgomery County Councilmember Valerie Ervin. The site made a series of strange claims including attempts to tie Ervin to the rightwing Koch brothers. Today Maryland Juice received a press statement from incumbent County Executive Ike Leggett denouncing the anonymous attacks:
IKE LEGGETT: I find the outrageous and highly personal attacks against Councilmember Valerie Ervin appalling. There is no room in Montgomery County politics for anonymous smears of public officials and community leaders -- whether by mail, email or via internet web sites.
If you have a criticism about something or someone you should own up to it. A lively exchange of views and perspectives is healthy for the body politic. Smears and slander bring political discourse down into the gutter. No person of good will should have anything to do with it -- and all should reject these offensive tactics.

Meanwhile, Councilmember Ervin responded to Leggett's statement with the following comment on Facebook:
VALERIE ERVIN: I am so pleased that County Executive Isiah Leggett has stepped up to condemn the anonymous attacks on me. I want to thank him for his leadership and for calling out these hateful actions.
