Maryland Juice is pleased to announce that tonight the Montgomery County Democratic Central Committee has selected David Fraser-Hidalgo
to fill the District 15 House of Delegates vacancy caused by Brian
Feldman's elevation to the State Senate. Note that there were 8
candidates vying for the appointment, and the MCDCC rules require
majority support. As a result, the election was held in rounds, and a
new vote was taken until a candidate reached a majority. See how each
candidate fared below (and note that Joe Foley was the only candidate
running explicitly as a caretaker):

Committee to recommend David Fraser-Hildalgo
For House of Delegates Representing District 15
Wheaton, MD
- The Montgomery County Democratic Central Committee voted to recommend
David Fraser-Hildalgo to Governor O’Malley as an appointment for House
of Delegates, representing Legislative District 15. The vacancy was a
result of Brian Feldman’s appointment to the State Senate last month,
resulting from Senator Rob Garagiola’s resignation.
In accordance with State rule, when a seat in the Maryland General Assembly becomes vacant, the Montgomery County Democratic Central Committee must submit a name to the Governor within 30 days.
“Making a recommendation to fill legislative vacancies is among one of the most important tasks for members of the Committee,” said Central Committee Chair, Gabe Albornoz. “The Committee spent weeks reviewing applications and meeting with a highly talented and qualified pool of candidates.”
Fraser-Hildalgo, a resident of Boyds and a former Montgomery County Police Officer was supported by the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce for Montgomery County, Hispanic Democratic Club, the Hispanic Business Foundation and Delegate Ben Kramer. “I look forward to the opportunity to serve my fellow residents of District 15,” said Fraser-Hildalgo “Thank you to my friends and supporters.”
