CD2: MD Sen. Nancy Jacobs Plots Bid Against Rep. Ruppersberger // CD4: Rep. Donna Edwards Kicks-Off Re-Election, Earns Sierra Club & PCCC Backing

The Cecil Whig news site is announcing that Maryland State Senator Nancy Jacobs has formed an exploratory committee in a potential bid against Rep. Dutch Ruppersberger in CD2: "Jacobs made the announcement at a fundraiser breakfast for 1st Congressional District Rep. Andy Harris." Observers previously noted this possibility, but this is a sure sign of things moving forward. Indeed, with an April Congressional primary next year, things are beginning to get heated in Maryland politics!

Meanwhile, in the 4th Congressional District, Rep. Donna Edwards this weekend officially kicked off her re-election campaign at a holiday event. The Washington Informer reports:
In remarks where the 53-year-old legislator was surrounded by long-time friends and supporters, she highlighted the need to continue focusing on job creation, hold CEOs accountable, protect Social Security and Medicare from Republican cuts, and increase college loans for working families...."

"Since being elected, I am proud to have held insurance companies accountable, defended Social Security and Medicare, secured $38 million for our district to invest in job creation, and ensured that millions of Maryland students receive after-school suppers," she continued....
Maryland Juice previously reported that Prince George's State's Attorney Glenn Ivey was plotting a challenge against Rep. Edwards, but since then have noted that it appears national progressive groups are rallying around the incumbent. The Real Prince George's blog noted that over the weekend the Sierra Club and Progressive Change Campaign Committee endorsed Rep. Edwards.

We'll have a lot more Maryland Congressional coverage coming soon!
