John Delaney Campaign Gathers Steam with Eleven New Endorsements

Delegate Luiz Simmons and other prominent community leaders 
throughout the Sixth District back Democrat Delaney

Gaithersburg, Md. - Momentum builds for the John Delaney for Congress campaign with the announcement of the support of eleven new prominent community leaders today.

“I’m honored to receive such widespread, community backing,” Delaney said. “Our message is resonating throughout the district and the campaign momentum is growing each day. Voters are looking for new leadership on job creation and expanding the middle class.”

New Endorsements:
  1. Del. Luiz Simmons — State Delegate, District 17
  2. Saqib Ali – Former State Delegate, District 39
  3. Michael Novelli — Maryland for Obama 2008 Director, Maryland Steering Committee Coordinator for Kerry 2004, Montgomery County Co-Chair for Clinton 1992 and 1996
  4. Kai Hagen — Former Frederick County Commissioner and Executive Director of Envision Frederick County
  5. Walt Stull — City Council member, Brunswick, Md.
  6. Karin Tome —City Council member, Brunswick, Md.
  7. Tina Clarke — Former special assistant to Former Montgomery County Executive Doug Duncan
  8. John Daniels – 23 year Navy veteran, former Frederick Alderman candidate
  9. Guled Kassim — Former U.S. Marine and Democratic activist in Montgomery County
  10. Dr. Robyn Mathias —Teacher and Principal, retired after 32 years, Montgomery County Public School System
  11. Jim Racheff — Small business owner and Democratic activist, Frederick, Md.

Simmons said. “He is a passionate, common-sense Democrat who has real world experience creating jobs from scratch and helping thousands of small businesses succeed. John is offering practical solutions that will create jobs, advance education and protect the environment.”

“As someone invested in Maryland Democratic and progressive politics for over twenty years, I'm supporting John Delaney because he shows the kind of leadership the diverse 6th district needs,” said Michael Novelli.  “John is a committed Democrat whose business and public service background would make him the ideal addition to our Maryland delegation in Congress, and I believe he can return this Congressional seat to the Democratic Party.”

“John’s Five E’s: Employment, Energy, Education, Environment, and Ethics show that he is willing to tackle complex problems with a serious plan,” Brunswick, Md. City Council member Walt Stull said. “John is much more than a politician; he’s a thinker, a planner, and a doer.”

Delaney has previously been endorsed by President William Jefferson Clinton, former Montgomery County Executive Doug Duncan, and the Washington Post.
